These firms include the top tier holders in UPS (uninterruptible power supply) & CPS (Continuous Power Systems), STS ( static transfer switches), Flywheels (low and high speed), and Batteries (including nickel & lithium technologies). Our principals have assisted in the design, testing and beta roll-out of many of these products which, today, have forever changed the landscape of the industry. EXPERIENCE
MC West principals rely on strong credentials in project management, facilities management, site engineering, construction management, and technical writing, as well as marketing & general corporate management. To facilitate successful project completion, M C West offers licensed Professional Engineering (PE) services and holds a CA B License for TurnKey installation services (CA 793994). Principals at MCW have very successfully held such key technical & operations titles as Principal Site Engineer, Plant Manager, Manager of Technical Services, Director of Plant Services, V P General Manager and Responsible Managing Officer (RMO). Most design engineers do not get to see what actually happened to their design years later. Uniquely, our principals have not only held responsibility for 7 x 24 equipment design, engineering, manufacture, marketing, sales, installation and commissioning/testing, but also the long term maintenance, emergency service response and data management of that same equipment as well. This has given us an unparalleled edge in an unforgiving industry. This experience has paid dividends in live Data Center project work, where we have successfully completed expansion and renovation projects for well over a hundred Tier III and Tier IV facilities.
The managing principal and founder of Mission Critical West Incorporated is Dennis P. DeCoster. Mr. DeCoster is a graduate of Rutgers University with post-graduate training at Seton Hall, Princeton and Rutgers in law, marketing & engineering. Early in his career, he worked with or directly for such firms as Piller (manufacturer of large rotary DC Flywheel and UPS/CPS systems), Mitsubishi (world class builder of UPS, turbines, genset systems and more), CATERPILLAR / Active Power (builder of Gensets, DC flywheel UPS), Stulz (computer room air conditioning system builder), VYCON (builder of high speed magnetic bearing DC flywheel systems), and Cobasys (manufacturer of UPS NiMH battery systems). Mr. DeCoster was wide experience specifying, installing and/or commissioning every popular line of UPS, genset, STS, ATS, CRAC, PDU, and other critical facilities infrastructure. He was Senior VP and GM of Industrial Power Systems/TIMA Engineering for over 12 years in addition to being their RMO (Responsible Managing Officer) for their CA license. At IPS-TIMA, Mr. DeCoster evaluated and brought on new critical facilities infrastructure equipment lines, founded their “TurnKey” installation & commissioning division, and managed the sales, application engineering, scripting, installation and commissioning of all data center infrastructure projects. Clients included VISA, Intel, NIKE, Kaiser, Los Angeles County, SBC-Pac Bell, GTE, and a host of Fortune 500 firms. The great majority of these projects were expansion or renovation efforts involving live Tier III & IV data centers. Equipment installed on these projects included diesel electric generation, UPS & CPS, batteries & flywheels, ATS & ASTS, paralleling systems, CRACs (Computer Room Air Conditioners), fire suppression, security systems, switchgear, TVSS & lightning suppression, PDU and RPP distribution & whip/cabling, raised/access flooring, 48V DC rectifiers, and monitoring & management systems.
Mr. DeCoster has a 20 year background in multi-discipline mission critical project management encompassing all areas of engineering, planning, technical writing, installation and 7 x 24 service management. He has authored a wide variety of articles for IEEE, Power Industry magazines, PQ & Battery Conferences, and other forums (see Resources). Mr. DeCoster also has substantial experience in corporate strategic planning and general management, and is frequently consulted by Wall Street analysts for future trends within the power quality field.
